Music at Butler: Butler University Wind Ensemble
Join the Butler University Wind Ensemble on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 3:00 PM for a special concert at the Howard Schrott Center for the Arts on the Butler University campus. We are honored to welcome guest artist Professor Gary Hill, Director of Bands Emeritus at Arizona State University. This performance concludes our Conducting Workshop and Annual Summit, which will feature twenty conductors from across the Midwest.
Our program, titled Connections, showcases repertoire linked to our distinguished guest. We begin with Gustav Holst’s iconic First Suite for Military Band in Eb Major, Op. 28 No. 1, followed by an excerpt from John Mackey’s Wine Dark Sea—a symphonic work for band. The new piece This Cruel Moon is a standalone composition derived from the beautiful second movement of Wine Dark Sea. The first half concludes with Anahita, a programmatic work by Roshanne Etezady, a familiar name to BUWE concert programs.
The second half of our concert features two exciting world premieres. First, Jamesin Parker, a graduate student in the Master of Music Instrumental Conducting program, presents his transcription of Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns for wind band. We close with a new composition by our own Professor of Composition, Michael Schelle. The Reputation is a gift for our guest clinician and long-time friend.
We hope you’ll join us for this memorable concert!
