Music at Butler: Rhapsody in Blue, The Centennial of an Experiment in Modern Music

The premiere of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue took place on February 12, 1924 in New York City at Aeolian Hall. This event is celebrating the centennial of Rhapsody in Blue and the “Experiment in Modern Music.” Dr. Kate Boyd, Butler University School of Music faculty member and Coordinator of the Keyboard Area, will be performing Gershwin’s beloved masterpiece. Dr. Trae Blanco and Dr. Matt Pivec will be collaborating for the rest of the program, which will feature the Butler University Jazz Ensemble, chamber ensembles, and a wind ensemble instrumentation plus some strings to accompany the Gershwin.
