Music at Butler: Butler University Wind Ensemble
Our November Symphonic Wind Ensemble Concert showcases music from Our Southern Border by featuring music by Mexican, Peruvian, Spanish, and American-Latinx composers. Spoken word from the stage will be delivered in Spanish and English in order to include all audience members.
The concert opens with a bold arrangement by British composer Steven Montague of the great music of Juan Perez Bocanegra, a Peruvian monk in the seventeenth century. We continue the first half of the program with another Indiana premiere of Mariachitlan by Juan Pablo Contreras, and close the half with the masterpiece of Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo, Adagio Para Instrumentos de Vientos.
The second half of the program features Latinx composer Gabriele Lene Frank’s masterwork Requiem for a Magical America in its first-ever Indiana performance. Subtitled El Dia De Los Muertos, the work showcases the liturgy, folklore, and heritage of the celebration. Finally, we close the program with Mexican composer Arturo Marquez’s work, Conge del Fuego.
This performance is free and open to the public, no ticket is required.
Masks are strongly encouraged to be worn by all patrons while in the venue.
