Bard Fest Presents Angels in America

June 2 - 25, 2023

In May 1993, Angels in America Part 1 – Millennium Approaches opened on Broadway. The theatre world was never the same. Winner of multiple Tony Awards. The Drama Desk Award, and the Pulitzer Prize the play cemented its reputation as one of the greatest works of theatrical art of the 20th century.

Now, in time for its 30th anniversary and to celebrate PRIDE month, Bard Fest, in partnership with Butler University,  will present a landmark event. In June 2023 we will present the entire epic play cycle for the first time in Indianapolis in over a decade.

“Brilliant, maddening, and necessary”,  writes The New Yorker,  the play follows the lives of its characters through the teeth of the AIDS epidemic. Its themes still resonate today with its frank discussion of the trials an oppressed community, politics, epidemics, and our basic humanity.    The play is an actor’s dream filled with some of the most soaring prose ever written.

“It ranks as nothing less than one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century”
– New York Observer

The show preparation has already started. A production team has assembled and started work. We have assembled some of the most talented craftsmen in the area.

We will use the production to provide support for Trinity Haven and their important work in the community.

Be sure to catch both parts of the play!
