The struggles of teens today are often overlooked or viewed as “dramatic.” Perhaps this is why 1 in 5 teens in the state of Indiana have seriously contemplated attempting suicide within the past year. The musical, 1 in 5, aims to raise awareness of the struggles teens face and in doing so, shine a light on the process of healing, helping our teens out of the darkness.
Written and performed by The Performing Arts Conservatory’s students grades 6-12, the play, 1 in 5, depicts six very different high school students caught in detention. The increasing tensions of the students mixed with a disconnected, agitated teacher, create some very real, very needed conversations about the emotions that cause students to become victims of suicide.
